Visit to the Audubon House in Key West - A Journey Back in Time
On December 10th, 2024, we had the pleasure of visiting the beautiful Audubon House in Key West. From the moment we arrived, we felt warmly welcomed by Joanne. With her enthusiasm and knowledge, she took us on a fascinating journey through the history of John James Audubon, the renowned naturalist and artist. Her stories brought the rich history of the house and Audubon’s life to life.
One of the interesting things Joanne told us was about Audubon’s smaller works. What exactly is the story behind these remarkable little masterpieces? We discovered that they are an important part of his legacy. In the museum shop, the most popular facsimiles turned out to be the striking American Flamingo and the elegant White Pelican – two absolute masterpieces that perfectly capture the beauty of nature. It is wonderful to see how our Audubon facsimiles are available for purchase in their museum shop.
The tour of the house was a special experience. As you walk through the various rooms, filled with antique furniture and historical artifacts, you feel as though you’ve stepped back in time. The house exudes an atmosphere of nostalgia and tells countless stories from the past. One of the highlights was the balcony overlooking the lush garden. The serene beauty of the garden completes the experience – a place where you can forget everything for a moment and completely relax.
If you ever have the chance to visit Key West, the Audubon House is an absolute must-see. It’s a unique place where history and nature come together in an unforgettable experience. Highly recommended for anyone who loves culture, art, and a touch of romance from times gone by.
